Professor Kerrigan is an internationally renowned bariatric surgeon and an acknowledged expert in his field. His views have appeared in the national press and have been broadcast by BBC, ITV, including ITV's This Morning, Sky News and Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and Today programmes. He has also appeared in TV documentaries about obesity surgery on ITV and C4. He has acted as an expert advisor in bariatrics for the General Medical Council, the Royal College of Surgeons and the Irish Medical Council. David was a Founder Member, ex-secretary (and is a current Council member) for the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society.
He was offered a Visiting Professorship by the University of Chester in 2011 (where he has helped establish a new MSc in Bariatric Clinical Practice) and was also awarded a Syme Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. The founder of Phoenix Health, David is still very active in clinical practice. In addition to his hands-on managerial role leading the Phoenix team, he performs a wide range of both basic and very complex weight loss operations on NHS and private patients using advanced keyhole surgery.
He also works at other Phoenix centres around the UK, including KIMS providing advice and surgical assistance if required to local surgeons dealing with more complex cases.
