Statement from Simon James, Chief Executive Officer and Jackie Groom, Chief Nurse.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) undertook an announced inspection of KIMS Hospital on 22 –24 September 2015 with an unannounced visit on 29th September 2015. Following the publication of their report and recommendations in April 2016, key actions are being taken to support the continued improvement of KIMS Hospital.
Overall, we welcome the CQC report. KIMS Hospital is one of the first independent hospitals to be reviewed by the CQC in the new wave of inspections and is a developing facility, having opened in April 2014.
Following the inspection, we received verbal feedback received from the inspectors; In line with that feedback, the final report gives “Requires Improvement” as an overall rating for the hospital, which is a realistic and fair judgement, given the relative immaturity of our systems and processes at that stage in the businesses evolution.
We are pleased that the hospital has been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC across several of the key domains; Responsive, Caring and Effective and also recognise that this inspection and report has provided us with further expert guidance to support our on-going improvement plans as the business continues to grow.
Patient safety is our number one priority, and we work with outstanding and highly experienced consultants, physicians and clinical staff. We are passionate about delivering high quality care and we are naturally disappointed with some of the Regulator’s findings and took immediate steps to address these.
At KIMS, we are committed to a culture of continual improvement, and so are in the process of review and updating our actions within our improvement plan, to incorporate the feedback from the Regulator. This will be available on our website once it has been submitted and accepted by the CQC.
